Corinthians try feast

Corinthians competed their season in fine style away to Instonians on Saturday with a massive 66-30 victory that ensured a fourth place finish in division 2A.

Corinthians scored four converted tries in the first half. Outhalf Conor Murphy grabbed the first after a fine break by scrumhalf Micky Murphy, veteran second row Pat Cunningham touched down from a rolling maul, captain Fionn Gormley got in for their third try after profitting from loose play, while right wing Bryan Dixon ran in unopposed to help the visitors to a 31-11 half-time lead.

Instonians’ opening try came from wing Stuart Mallon, who also added the conversion and a penalty, and Mallon added to the try tally early in the second half before centre Stuart O’Connell crossed for the third.

It prompted a response from Corinthians who added four more tries - with Murphy scoring his second, James Buckley grabbing two, and second row Pat Cunningham, who is hanging up his boots after many seasons, scoring his second try of the day to complete Corinthians’ tally. Instonians got some compensation with lock Gary McClintock finishing off with a flourish in the final minutes to touch down in the corner.
