Disappointment for Ardrahan in All Ireland final

Ardrahan suffered disappointment in the All-Ireland intermediate camogie final at Croke Park on Sunday when they went down by 2-8 to 0-14 to reigning champions Eoghan Rua from Derry.

Fortunate to be still in the game at half time, having been outplayed for the majority of the first two quarters by Ardrahan, the Northerners showed the resolve of champions.

They remained in touch as a result of two goals and trailed at the interval by 0-9 to 2-0.

Ardrahan should have been far further ahead at that juncture as their three-point interval lead was a scant reflection of their superiority in the first half.

Brenda Kerins had a tremendous game, notching three points from play. Aoife Callanan was outstanding too and she won mountains of possession for Bernard Forde’s charges.

Ardrahan fought might and main for the hour and they might have snatched it late when Sara Skehill had opportunities from the penalty spot.

Ardrahan: S Skehill (0-1 pen ), M Howley, C Murphy, S Keehan, N Murphy, A Lynskey (cpt ), S Gardiner (1f ), A Callanan 0-6 (3fs, 1 45 ), E Holland, A Brennan, S Healy, R O’Toole; S Forde, B Kerins (0-3 ), K O’Shaughnessy (0-1 ). Subs: O Keehan for Brennan (12-16 ); O Keehan for Howley (57 ); M Forde for Brennan (59 ).
