Moycullen face Neptune in final game

Moycullen conclude an enthralling season of Superleague basketball with a trip to Cork to face Neptune on Saturday evening.

The two teams were almost inseparable on both previous meetings this year. Moycullen won the first encounter, but were beaten in Neptune Stadium. with less than 10 points separating the sides on both occasions.

Moycullen want their season on a high, particularly after losing to Killester in Saturday’s final home game. Killester avenged their earlier defeat to Moycullen with a dominant 23-point win.

"It's a pity to lose by such a margin with the last home game of the season," said coach Gerard Lyons.

"The supporters have been absolutely amazing all season and the team really wanted to reward them with a win that we could celebrate. Unfortunately, we couldn't pull it out."

On Saturday the Dubliners were prepared for Moycullen’s swarming defence withPeter Madsen and Jermaine Turner connecting on 17 and 22 points respectively in the game.

Scores were harder to come by for Moycullen, and they failed to convert enough open shots, leaving them trailing by 12 points at quarter's end and by 23 at the half.

Moycullen came out fighting in the second half, abandoning their conservative defence. It caused Killester to stumble somewhat and a series of early turnovers looked like they might spark a comeback. However Killester changed tactics and the Moycullen interior defence was too small to cope. After the lead had narrowed to 13 points at one stage, Killester were able to steady the ship and close out the game.
