Occupy Galway events raise funds for local charities

Occupy Galway has raised more than €1,000 for charities in the last fortnight with the money going to the Simon Community, St Vincent de Paul, The Samaritans, and Cope.

Fundraising shows were held in Fibber Magees and Monroe’s Tavern with County Galway acts, including The Rye, The Sunbreallas, Seamus Ruttledge, and Cian of reggae band Intinn, performing.

“The events were organised to give a much needed boost to these worthy causes but also to continue to raise awareness of the banking set-up the politicians are trying to snare the nation in,” said Chris Duigan, the camp’s event organiser.

The next charity gig will be held in Aras Na Gael’s Club Oa2 on Dominick Street on Friday March 2 at 8pm. The money raised will be going to the Threshold Housing Advise Organisation. DJ Will Softly will play world music and there will also be a raffle and prizes.
