Galway City & County Childcare Committee to elect new parents’ representative

Galway City & County Childcare Committee is seeking a parent representative to join its board of management. All parents are invited to attend a parents’ meeting on Thursday February 16 in the Clayton Hotel, Galway, at 8pm, where an election will take place.

Board members are required to attend bi-monthly meetings of Galway City & County Childcare Committee to report parents’ issues and share relevant information.

Galway City & County Childcare Committee’s role is to coordinate and assist the development of quality childcare services; to provide information and resources for childcare providers, parents, and the general public; to implement Government-funded schemes at local level; and to coordinate the provision of childcare training.

“Parent representation is crucial to the effective operation of the board,” said Mary Giblin, coordinator of Galway City & County Childcare Committee. “Participation ensures that parents’ issues are included and considered in the board’s decision processes. We welcome input from interested parents at the election on the 16th.”

The election will be followed by a short presentation about setting up parent and toddler groups and information on available funding.

A ‘living gardens’ workshop, presented by Kay Synott, organic gardening specialist, will inform participants about various gardening activities that parents can enjoy with their children. Ms Synott, a qualified horticulturalist and garden designer, has designed award-winning school and community garden projects and is involved in environmental education throughout Galway.
