Lynch takes the plunge

In Alicante it was Tom Roche of the National Toll Roads, and on Saturday in Capetown it was the turn of Galway solicitor Brian Lynch to take the plunge.

Lynch, an invester in Ireland’s Green Dragon, was on board the 70ft yacht as it left Capetown on the second leg of Volvo Ocean Race. And after the first 90 minutes of the race Lynch was thrown into the sea in a dry suit and picked out of the water by a Green Dragon Shore crew member who was on standby in the team RIB.

“It was an incredible experience to start the Volvo Ocean Race with Ian and the crew, surrounded by hundreds of spectator boats,” says Lynch. “I stayed on board until the boat had completed the course in the bay. The Green Dragon RIB was on standby to pick me up once I jumped into the water in a dry suit.”

Lynch is one of several Galway businessmen, including Gerard Barrett, John Coyle, John O'Sullivan, John Flaherty, Eamon Conneely, John Killeen, and Enda O’Coineen, who have invested in the project.
