Misterman to open at London’s National Theatre in April

The exceptional journey Misterman, written and directed by Enda Walsh and starring Cillian Murphy, continues as the acclaimed play is set to be performed at The National Theatre in London this spring.

Following sell-out runs in Galway and New York, the play will make its British premiere on April 18 in the Lyttelton Theatre at the National Theatre. It will run until May 28.

Speaking from the Sundance Film Festival, where he was promoting his new film Red Lights with Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy, who plays the role of Thomas Magill in Misterman, described the play as “an amazing journey for me. I’m honoured to be bringing it to the Lyttleton stage.”

Galway Arts Festival’s chief executive John Crumlish commented, “The festival is delighted Misterman will have its UK premiere at the National Theatre in London. These are very exciting times for Galway Arts Festival. Great credit is due to Enda, Cillian, and the creative team that have brought us from Galway to London via New York.”

Galway Arts Festival’s artistic director Paul Fahy commented: “The National Theatre has been home to some of the great playwrights and productions from the UK over the last few decades with many of the greatest theatrical voices from around the world presented there each year. It is an honour to be part of The National’s 2012 programme with Misterman.”

Misterman was recently nominated for four Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards including: Best Production (Landmark Productions and Galway Arts Festival ), Best Actor (Cillian Murphy ), Best Designer Lighting (Adam Silverman ) and Best Designer Set (Jamie Vartan ). The awards ceremony will take place at IMMA on Sunday February 26.
