St Mary’s College centenary scholarship scheme

St Mary’s College was opened by Bishop O’Dea on August 25 1912. Its purpose was to serve the educational needs of Galway and of the diocese. Generous scholarships were provided to this end.

As part of the school’s centenary celebrations, a new scholarship scheme was launched in December 2011. This scheme will provide scholarships (academic, music, and sport ) to 100 students over the next five years.

The scholarships will be awarded to candidates who reach required standards in their chosen area. It is hoped that the scheme will assist many who are wishing to achieve high standards.

The closing date for applications is Friday January 20. The scholarship exam will take place on Saturday January 21 at 9.30am.

The founders of St Mary’s 100 years ago had a clear vision of the importance of education. Today the school is renewing that vision and seeks to foster charity, co-operation, and consideration for others in its students.

During the centenary year St Mary’s will be inviting all past pupils to participate in the celebrations, which commence in August.
