Treat your skin to Galway Laser’s new deluxe facial

The Galway Laser and Skincare Clinic has added a new and ultra-effective facial to its already impressive range of treatments and services - an MD Formulations Deluxe Facial which not only deep cleanses the skin, leaving it feeling like new, but also goes some way in dispelling the suspicions surrounding glycolic skin peels.

I will be the first to admit that whenever the words ‘skin peel’ were mentioned chills ran down my spine, as scenes from Sex and the City, of red-faced post skin peel Samantha, came flooding into the mind - the show’s creators have a lot to answer for. Despite this slight apprehension I decided to keep an open mind and headed down to Galway Laser and Skincare Clinic on the Tuam Road which has recently started offering a new MD Formulations Deluxe Facial, exclusive to the clinic. Although not actually a peel, the facial is what is described by the clinic’s skincare specialists as an “introduction” into the world of glycolic skin peels and in particular the MD Formulation skincare range.

The facial itself takes about one hour and 15 minutes to complete, and includes thorough cleansing, the removal of any nasty blackheads, and the clearing of blocked pores, as well as the application of the MD Formulations product - which creates a slight tingly effect on the skin that soon goes away - and a soothing mask. What is different about this skincare treatment, compared to the others offered by the clinic, is that there is a bit of pampering involved. During the hour I was kept wrapped up in comfy warm blankets and relaxed with a small neck and shoulder massage. In fact, I’m sure I had a good snooze. I certainly came out of the experience feeling great, and more importantly so did my skin. The slight redness that was there, in small patches on the cheeks, disappeared so quickly that I was able to be back at my work desk without feeling at all self-conscious. In the days that followed my skin looked fantastic, taking on a far fresher and younger appearance. It is safe to say that this is probably one of the most effective facials I have ever had, and would certainly help anyone to take their first baby steps towards the more intensive glycolic skin peels which as it turns out do not involve any actual peeling, only fantastic results which last for weeks afterwards.

MD Formulations, originally developed by doctors 25 years ago, is results driven and is classed as a cosmeceutical because of its combination of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products with biological active ingredients which are purer than what is normally used in skincare products. Because the ingredients have a smaller molecular structure they are absorbed right down to the dermal layer of the skin, therefore having a more long-term effect on the production of healthy skin cells.

Glycolic acid, which is derived from sugar cane and has been used in the skincare industry for almost 30 years, is the active ingredient in MD Formulations and is scientifically proven to increase cell renewal, encourage the development of healthy skin cells by rebalancing oily skin, increasing hydration of dry skin, normalising sensitive skin, and producing an overall firmer, more youthfu,l appearance. The range is suitable to treat all skin types from the most sensitive to those who suffer from roseaca. According to the experts, traces of glycolic acid have been found naturally in the skin therefore it is unlikely to have a negative reaction. However, Galway Laser and Skincare Clinic staff always hold a consultation with every client to assess the skin and ascertain which products and course of treatment would be most beneficial.

The MD Formulations Deluxe Facial is priced at €75, however, Galway Advertiser readers can avail of a reduced price of €50 from now until Christmas.
