Corrib Rangers test new pitch and floodlights

Corrib Rangers FC’s first training sessions on the new 3G pitch at Corrib Park took place under floodlights on Monday evening.

The junior squad turned out in force to test the Astroturf surface. Those in attendance to see the switching on of the lights and first session were club officials Ger Stiffe and Richard Devlin; Labour councillor Billy Cameron; and Corrib Park resident Tom Murray, a former West United man.

“The surface is the best you will get in town,” said Cllr Cameron. “The development of both the 3G pitch plus the UEFA mini pitch are further developments in the overall provision of sporting infrastructure which have been sadly lacking over the years for the youth of the Westside and Corrib Rangers in particular.”

Cllr Cameron said it is important that city councillors and Galway City Council officials deliver on Phase 2 of a grass pitch which would complete the project.
