Hurling manager decision on hold

The committee appointed to select the new Galway sernior hurling manager needs more time to make its final decision.

An announcement was due to be made on Monday night at the Raheen Woods Hotel in Athenry, but the selection committee was not in a position to put a name forward at that stage.

All three men nominated for the job, Johnny Kelly, Anthony Cunningham and Micheal Donoghue, have been interviewed, but the committee has asked for more time to mull over its choice.

No time frame has been given for the announcement, but hurling board secretary Pat Kearney did make the point this week that there was no rush when Galway’s first league game was not until the end of February.

Better to do the job right and pick the man they really want, rather rushing it and making the wrong call which is the state of play at the moment.
