Evergreen Healthfoods are next week hosting a unique cookery demonstration event in Moycullen in aid of the RNLI Galway Lifeboats. The event, entitled ‘Health from the Sea – a seaweed cookery demonstration by Dr Prannie Rhatigan’, takes place upstairs at The Forge Bar, Moycullen on Tuesday October 25 at 7:30pm.
Prannie Rhatigan is a medical doctor who has been harvesting and cooking with seaweed since childhood. Born and raised in Sligo, she published her first cookbook Irish Seaweed Kitchen in 2009. It has since become the ultimate bible for cooking with seaweeds, and won a Gourmand Award Ireland for Best First Cookbook in 2009.
All of this has led to many television features and appearances including Nationwide, Ireland AM and The Afternoon Show.
The cookery demonstration will showcase some of Ireland’s best seaweeds, and show simple ways to introduce them into your diet. The health benefits of seaweeds have been widely recognised in recent years, and this has led to an explosion in popularity among Evergreen customers.
Evergreen is very happy to be bringing Ms Rhatigan to Galway and to be given the opportunity to work with her.
“We’ve expanded our range of seaweeds and sea vegetables hugely in the last few years, and that has been down to customer demand. Now we want to give customers the opportunity of learning how you can use these as ingredients in every day cooking,” said Aideen Hurley of Evergreen.
Prannie Rhatigan is excited about coming back to Galway as this is where she started out in college. She holds an degree in psychology from NUI Galway, as well as a medical degree from NUI, Cork, and is a qualified GP.
Admission on the night is €5, with all door proceeds going directly to the Galway Lifeboats. Supporting this event will help raise much needed funds for the continuing service of excellence the crew of the Galway RNLI Lifeboat provides to our coastal community.
For more information on the event, call in to any of the five Evergreen stores.
