Get active and volunteer for your community

Active Citizenship Week is currently taking place in the city, spearheaded by Junior Chamber Ireland Galway.

In conjunction with Conservation Volunteers Galway, JCI Galway launched Active Citizenship Week at a beach clean-up in Silverstrand.

“It was fantastic to work with the volunteers from CVG as they are the ultimate active citizens,” says Sean Rowland, JCI Galway president.

Throughout this week JCI members from around Ireland are encouraging people to be more active in their communities.

Louise Walsh, JCI Ireland president, says the main drive of this project is to get the Irish public thinking about getting involved in their communities and then pledging to become active on its website www.fiftyways.com

“If we can get people to pledge to become more active, the chances are that they will actually do the things they pledge to do,” she says.

"This project will be ongoing and during the year we will remind people of the importance of being an active citizen. "

The Conservation Volunteers Galway carries out a wide range of projects, including tree planting, fencing, hedge-laying, and the removal of invasive species. The outings take place twice a month on Saturdays with the first event scheduled for the beginning of October.
