Boat owners and householders warned over thefts

Gardaí are warning boat owners to take precautions when storing and securing outboard engines following a spate of thefts around Galway.

Several boat engines have been stolen around the county in recent weeks. In the most recent incident a silver Honda outboard engine and a grey dinghy with the name ‘McDara’ on its side were stolen from Tarrea Pier in Kilcolgan last weekend. The theft is understood to have occurred on Friday or Saturday.

Anyone with information on these thefts, or who has been offered an outboard engine for sale, is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at (091 ) 538000.

Gardaí are also warning householders to be vigilant for thieves stealing home heating oil, a trend which is emerging as people prepare to have their tanks topped up for the winter months. People are asked to report any incidents to Galway Garda Station at (091 ) 538000.
