Seán Moloney to launch new album in The Crane

IRISH TRAD musician Seán Moloney will launch his new album, Where’s Me Cap?, with a gig in The Crane Bar on Tuesday at 9pm.

Where’s Me Cap? is Maloney’s fourth album, but his first to feature all original material. Despite it’s seemingly flippant title, the album was actually inspired by Patrick Kavanagh’s novel Tarry Flynn, and features the music Seán composed for Connall Morrison’s stage adaptation of the work, which ran in the Town Hall Theatre in 2010.

“Tarry Flynn presented me with a focused theme to test my composition skills,” says Seán. “Most of the music is firmly rooted in the traditional Irish idiom with a 1930’s flavour and with some deviation to a more universal ballroom style for the dance hall scene. Fiddles feature very strongly in this production with an important dramatic role for the bodhrán.”

Seán will be joined on the night by his band, featuring Philip Duffy (fiddle/tin whistle ), Caroline Locke (piano/keyboard ), Irene Moloney (bodhrán/mandolin ), Shane Moloney (fiddle/keyboard ), while Seán will play fiddle and flute. Actor Barry Hopkins will join the group to perform narratives along with the music.

Admission is free. For more information and tickets contact The Crane on 091 - 587419.
