Athenry Golf Club opens new practice facility

Athenry Golf Club welcomed the Minister for Sport, Michael Ring, on Friday to officially open its new practice area facility.

The new practice area features a short game area (100 yards and closer ), a long game practice area, bunker play area, and chipping and putting green.

According the the club, Athenry is now unique in Galway to have a members’ only practice area facility to complement its new clubhouse, course, Golfstyle proshop, and three resident golf professionals who are available for lessons.

To celebrate the official opening, the club has five limited new membership places at a special discount price on offer. The annual subscription cost for the remainder of the year will be waived for one of the five.

Minister Ring said the club’s success was a tribute to its many volunteers who gave their time and effort at no cost. In his dual role as Minister with responsibility for tourism and sport, the Minister also committed himself to the promotion of golf in Ireland, particularly at a time of great success for Irish golf internationally due to the recent major successes of Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington.
