Cricketers in flying form

County Galway cricketers, who are enjoying a good run in the Munster League where they remain top of division two, have also produced a series of victories in cup competitions.

Their latest win was in the Connacht Senior Cup in which they defeated Ballyhaunis by three wickets, following a convincing win in the Munster Junior Cup semi-final on Saturday when they beat Limerick by 20 runs.

These results ensure Galway progress to the next stages and, most notably, to the Junior Cup final for the second year running. The current Junior Cup holders, Galway are expected to face Clare at Lydican in Galway on July 30.

This continues a rich vein of form for the County Galway side with victories against Cork Harlequins and Cork County second X1 in the Munster League, and an amazing result in the Munster Senior Cup beating Cork County first team (who play in a division above Galway ) two weeks ago in Cork. This appearance in the Munster Senior Cup final automatically qualifies Galway for next year's Irish Senior Cup which is Ireland's premier cup competition.

Dannish Ali leads his side with some fine fast bowling, while Shariq Nasim has been in top form with several scores over 50. Saleh Rehman took three wickets in one over in Cork, while wicket keeper Ronan Mahon has pulled off some stunning catches. Bowlers Iliff Summit, Waqqas Raja, Bilal Ali Zain, Umair Maqsood, and veteran spinner Ted Turton, continue to pick up vital wickets. Warren Wilks is a solid middle order batsman, achieving another score over 30 against Limerick on Saturday.
