Show time again in Oughterard

Oughterard, currently in the spotlight for Celebrity Bainisteoir, will continue its action-packed summer activities with its annual show, which takes place this year on August 27 and 28.

The two-day Oughterard Show encompasses competition in a variety of classes, including showjumping, cats and dogs, sheep, horses, cattle, donkeys, and the popular domestic arts section.

Entries are now open for all events which get under way on the Saturday with the equestrian competition which boast a prize fund of more than €4,000.

The competitions scheduled for Saturday include family ridden pony classes, side-saddle, dressage, and working hunter, as well as two derby competitions for riders under and over 16. There are also a number of local classes open to riding centres and pony clubs in Connemara for which there is no entry fee. A major event will be the supreme championship for the Michael Dillon Perpetual Cup which will involve ponies from the working hunter, Connemara ridden, and stallion classes.

Highlights on Sunday include the Powers Quarry 28th International Ridden Connemara Pony Championship which has a prize fund of €2,500, and the €1,000 Western Region Irish Draft Foal Championship.
