Game, set, match for O Brolchain

Local politicians competed with local sport stars and some of Galway’s finest tennis players at a special Pro-Celeb Tennis Tournament to mark the Galway Lawn Tennis Club’s Open Day at the weekend.

The crowd were able to see Mayor Mike Crowe battle it out with his brother and fellow councillor Ollie on one court as Senator Fidelma Healy Eames duelled with Councillor Hildegarde Naughton close by.

Former senator and mayor Niall O Brolchain had to overcome the challenge of ultra-marathon man Richard Donovan to qualify for a place in the final as Sheffield United and former Galway United star Seamus Conneely fought off the committed challenge of TD Noel Grealish to secure a place in the final and top the other ‘Group of Death.’

In a keenly contested final, umpired by event organiser Mike Geraghty, Niall O Brolchain, partnered by Cathal McEvoy clinched a narrow victory 11-9 in a champions’ tie-break over Seamus Conneely and Donal Hegarty.
