The Pipe DVD to be launched in Charlie Byrne’s tomorrow

The Pipe, the award-winning Irish documentary on Rossport’s struggle against the economic might of Shell, will be launched on DVD in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop tomorrow at 6pm.

The Pipe was directed by Risteard Ó Domhnaill and produced by Rachel Lysaght. Made over four years, Ó Domhnaill followed three members of the community - Willie Corduff, one of the Rossport Five and his attempts to defend the farm his father reclaimed from the bog; Monica Müller who refused to join protests; and Pat O’Donnell, a local fisherman who is repeatedly arrested for daringly sailing his small fishing boat into the path of the pipe-layer The Solitaire.

The Pipe has already received standing ovations at last year’s London, Toronto, and Cork film festivals, and the Best Documentary award at the 2010 Galway Film Fleadh. It was recently screened on More4, and TV stations in Iran and Norway are also looking to show it. Film-maker Michael Moore has also requested a copy of the film for possible inclusion in his Traverse City Film Festival.

The launch is open to the public and all are welcome.
