Streets of Galway set for August 6

This year’s popular Streets of Galway 8km Road Race is set to take place on Saturday August 6.

Sponsored by Corrib Oil and hosted by the Galway City Harriers Athletic Club, the event, which has become a major feature of the local and national running calendar, celebrates its 26th anniversary this year.

. Organisers are expecting 2,500 runners to take part, demonstrating the current running boom Ireland is experiencing.

Once again the race starts and finishes at Southpark in the Claddagh and all runners, joggers and walkers are welcome. Elite athletes and club runners will mix it with recreational runners and the many people from other sports who race once a year in ‘The Streets’. Junior participants are also welcome, with a minimum age of 14.

The race director is Gearoid Quinn, and he, along with his team of GCH volunteers, are already organising this year’s event.

Entries are open until July 17 at €18, with late entries €25 until July 31.

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all, the organisers have limited numbers to 2,500.

There is a total prize fund of €5,000, spread across different prize categories, as well as a course record bonus of €500, which is offered by Corrib Oil.

Online entry is being used again this year, along with chip timing.
