Mountbellew/Moylough v Micheal Breathnach Sunday at 3.15 pm in Pearse Stadium

Micheal Breathnach have no points from their three games in Division 1A in the league and unless they start to collect a few points quickly they will find themselves in 1B next season. They also need to try and get a victory this Sunday or they could find themselves in the relegation quagmire very quickly.

They went down 2-11 to 1-6 against Corofin in the first round and struggled badly for scores. Current county senior panellist Peadar Óg O’Griofa came on as a sub at half time in that tie and hit 0-4 (3fs ). If he is available to start it would be a big plus for his side. Seosamh O’Connaire took his goal well in that defeat but they will need more of a scoring input from the likes of Peadar O’Cionnaith and Sean Denvir if they are to get anything out of Sunday.

Mountbellew have been strong championship contenders over the past few seasons and could have won the title in 2009 when they took Corofin to a replay. They were very poor the last day in Tuam Stadium in their first round defeat and leaked three goals to Annaghdown. They lost on an unusual score-line of 3-4 to 0-11.

It is difficult to look past the North board men in this tie if the likes of Cathal Kenny, Joe Bergin, Colm Colleran, Gary Sweeney, Joss Moore, Joe Meehan, Paul Donnellan and Stephen Boyle play to the form they have shown in previous championships. However if they are as wasteful as they were against Annaghdown in front of the posts they will make things very difficult for themselves.

Silke’s call: Mountbellew/Moylough
