The blazer — how to wear it well

A wardrobe essential, the blazer is a versatile and timeless piece that will take you right into the next season. From the boyfriend style to long tuxedo jacket or cropped boxy blazer in black, white, cream, or navy, here are some ways to dress up or down this favourite piece.

Dress: Add an edge to your classic summer dress with a short jacket. Leave the jacket open to elongate your figure. Twist a silk scarf around your neck and finish off with leg-lengthening nude shoes.

Skinnies: for a relaxed day look, wear your favourite skinnies with a T-shirt slightly tucked in, push the sleeves of the blazer up, and team with ankle high shoes.

Skirt: soften a beautifully tailored jacket with a pleated skirt in a punchy colour and team it with a light top and ballerina pumps.

Pants: harem pants are also a huge trend this season, as are palazzo pants. Wear them with a lightweight wool top and small wedge sandals. Finish off the look with the blazer and a belt around it.

Shorts: probably the coolest look for the season, and great for emphasising your legs. Either choose the jacket slightly shorter than the shorts, or to the hips if you are petite. Go for a coloured patterned top and a pair of gold flat sandals.
