If you have a Seanad vote use it, says Ó Brolcháin

Seanad Éireann has a very limited electorate, with the only members of the public allowed a say in who sits there being university graduates.

However as Seanad candidate Niall Ó Brolcháin points out, more than 97,000 electors are registered to vote on the NUI panel and for Seanad candidates seeking a seat on that panel, every one of those votes count.

Ballot papers for the upcoming Seanad election have been sent out to eligible registered electors this week and voting will close on April 27.

“The right to vote in the Seanad election is not automatic,” said Mr Ó Brolcháin. “Eligible graduates are required to complete a registration form and return it to the NUI office by February 26 in any given year for inclusion in the revised register published on June 1 of that year.

“For this election, the register published in June 2010 will be used. Anyone who registered after that date will not be able to vote in this election
