Public urged to report illegal fireworks to gardai

Fireworks can maim and kill, according to Galway gardai who are urging any concerned member of the public to report the sale or possession of these illegal products.

Gardai are again advising the public that the use and sale of fireworks is illegal in Ireland and a fine of €10,000 can be given to anyone caught in possession of them. Fireworks available on the black market are dangerous and may not be manufactured to a high standard. This lack of quality control can result in fireworks being defective and extremely dangerous.

Fireworks are explosives and cause serious distress to many people, particularly the more vulnerable members of our community. Gardai are warning parents to be aware that fireworks are potentially lethal weapons, that it is not acceptable to give them to children.
