Further remand in custody for theft and drugs dealing accused

A man charged with using pliers to steal more than €460 worth of clothing from one Galway city centre store as well as drug dealing has been further remanded into custody.

The Galway District Court heard on Monday how Kaspars Vitolins (35 ), currently of no fixed abode but formerly of Francis Cottage, Menlo, had nothing to say after charge and caution.

The Latvian national is charged with the possession of an article, to wit a pliers, while not at place of residence and with the intention of it being used in connection with a theft at Penney’s, Eyre Square, and with the theft of clothing, valued at €463, from the same store on February 5, 2011. He is further charged with the theft of an assortment of clothing and razor blades, valued at €115.81, from Dunnes Stores, Briarhill, on February 4, 2011, and with possession of amphetamine, and possession of the drug with the purpose of selling or supplying at Galway Garda Station, Mill Street, on January 11, 2011.

Inspector Sean Glynn made an application for the accused man to be remanded into custody as there was an objection to bail.

Following a short adjournment Vitolins’ solicitor informed the court that no application for bail was being made at that time. He then made a request for statements and CCTV footage.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded Vitolins in custody to appear at Harristown District Court tomorrow
