Trial of Cunningham murder accused to begin next week

The trial of a man charged with the murder of Claregalway man Kieran Cunningham is to begin next week at the Central Criminal Court.

Alexsander Nadwodny, a 28-year-old Polish national with no fixed abode, faces the charge of murder, contrary to common law, of 20-year-old Kieran Cunningham at Williamsgate Street on June 3, 2009. Mr Cunningham, of Slievefinn, Claregalway, was stabbed a number of times moments after leaving a nightclub near Eyre Square.

At a Galway District Court sitting in October 2009, it was noted that the book of evidence had been served on the accused. Judge Mary Fahy remanded Nadwodny in custody for trial at the Central Criminal Court. The trial is now due to begin on Monday January 17.
