Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Well it has been a long time coming and with such anticipation leading up to the penultimate installment of the Harry Potter film franchise it was always going to be hard to please some viewers but for me, the wait was worth it. The only drawback is having to wait for the next one.

Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe ) and best friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint ) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson ) have had to grow up a bit more in this film, dealing with their different emotions, and having to face the big bad Voldemort threatened world without the safety and familiarily of Hogwarts. In portraying these dramatic changes, director David Yates has created an even more mature and darker Harry Potter world where the trio are on their own, not knowing who to trust, and racing against time to track down and destroy the Horcruxes in order to eradicate Lord Voldemort’s (Ralph Fiennes ) near immortality and finally defeat him.

The film begins with the Order of the Pheonix members initiating their plans to get Harry to a safe hide-out, however, things are never that simple and the Death Eaters are soon on their trail. Harry blames himself for endangering others, the situation comes to a head when Voldemort, through his minions, takes control of the Ministry of Magic. Harry, Ron, and Hermione must go on the run from those now hunting them. They Apparate from place to place, working on a plan to find and destroy the Horcruxes, but it proves more difficult than they thought as feelings of jealously and ineffectiveness creep in.

In a daring bid they infiltrate the Ministry of Magic and snatch a Horcruxe from the neck of Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton ). After weeks of failing in their attempts to destroy the evil necklace a strange occurrence leads Harry to the Sword of Godric Griffindor and Ron finds the courage to do the task at hand.

Their journey leads them to discover the truth behind The Tale of the Three Brothers and the Deathly Hallows, made up of three objects - the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility - which together could make a wizard invincible.

However, Voldemort is already on the hunt for one of the objects which will help him become even more powerful. Check out the film yourself to see if he succeeds.

Verdict: 5/5
