Galway bands get rocking for Movember

Galway bands Lost Chord and Go Panda Go are providing the soundtrack to Movember, the moustache growing charity, with their fundraising single ‘I Wanna To Be Tom Selleck’.

Movember is a fun event which takes place during the entire month of November where men grow moustaches to raise funds for Action Prostate Cancer, an initiative of the Irish Cancer Society, and to raise awareness about men’s health issues in general. All men who take part become known as ‘Mo Bros’.

In order to help in the fundraising drive, the two bands, who are both on Irish indie lable Bluestack Records, along with Galway poet Laurie Leech, created the new single. ‘I Wanna To Be Tom Selleck’ can be downloaded from iTunes. It costs 99c and all proceeds will go towards Movember.

Laurie and the individual members of Lost Chord and Go Panda Go are taking part in Movember and can be sponsored through the event website www.movember.com There are loads of Galway people taking part, including Gugai, local DJ Graham Dolan, the Galway Advertiser’s Kernan Andrews, members of the NUI, Galway Students Union, and members of Galway’s West End Traders.

If you know them, or have friends or family taking part in Movember, go to http://ie.movember.com/donate/find-member/ and type in the name of whoever it is you want to sponsor, and make a donation from there.

Other Movember related events in Galway include the Connacht v Scarlets Magners League match at the Sportsground tomorrow at 7pm. Before and after the match, there will be a charity collection for Movember.

Saturday November 27 is Movember Tips Day when all bars and bar-staff in Galway’s West End (Dominick Street, Henry Street, Sea Road, etc, ), will donate tips collected that night to Movember.
