City Hall praised for its Bóthar Uí Eithir/Forster Street bus lanes

The new bus lanes along Bóthar Uí Eithir and Forster Street have earned City Hall praise with bus drivers saying the lanes have led to greater efficiency during peak hours.

Gerard Bartley, the general manager of Galway City Direct Ltd bus service, wrote to Ciarán Hayes, the council’s director of services for transportation and infrastructure, congratulating the council on the creation of the bus lanes along Bóthar Uí Eithir and Forster Street.

In a letter dated November 1, Mr Bartley wrote: “Since the opening of the bus lanes last Wednesday our bus drivers have informed me that they are operating in the city centre area with far greater efficiency, especially during peak hours.”

Mr Bartley congratulated City Hall and its transportation unit on the creation of the lanes and said the company is “very thankful that the council saw the project through to its completion”.

He also wrote that Galway City Direct Ltd “fully support” the construction of bus lanes within Galway city as they will have “a very positive impact on all bus services” and that “a fast, frequent and efficient service will entice more people to leave their car at home and take a bus”.

Galway City Direct Ltd has also written to the Department of Transport requesting to run some of its bus services along the Seamus Quirke Road once the new bus lanes are completed.
