Witness appeal after spate of robberies, assaults and burglaries

Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a recent spate of robberies, assaults, and burglaries.

On Wednesday, October 27, between 2am and 2.30am a lone male was walking home when he was approached by three other males on Eyre Street in the city. These males asked the victim for his phone and wallet before one of them assaulted the man and made off with his items.

Witnesses are also being sought in relation to a separate incident which occurred on Thursday, October 28, at approximately 12.30am. A young male was driving along Eyre Street when his car was obstructed by a group of young people outside the Hole in the Wall pub. When the driver asked the group to move out of the way he was assaulted by a male who is described as being six foot in height, slim build, red hair, and was wearing dark clothing at the time. The victim’s car, a silver Peugeot 206, was also damaged in the incident.

A number of burglaries have also taken place throughout the city. During the night of Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October a burglary occurred at a house in Glasan Village Student accommodation in Ballybane in which a number of electrical items were stolen. On the same night a burglary took place at a house in the Rocklands Avenue estate in Ballybane and a number of laptop computers were taken. Also on the same night, a house in the Gleann Rua estate in Renmore burglars entered and took a black iPod Nano and iPod docking station as well as a black Fuji digital camera. A house in Lurgan Park, in Renmore, was also entered via the downstairs window and two iPods and a laptop were stolen. A number of items of jewellery were also taken when a house in Forster court was broken into.

Between 2pm and 4pm a house at Gleann Rua, Renmore, was entered via a kitchen window and a Toshiba laptop and 32” Plasma TV was taken. On the same day between 12pm and 9pm two silver Newbridge chains were stolen from Merlin Gate. In the early hours of Sunday, October 31, two separate houses were broken into in the Ballybrit Court estate, Ballybrit, and a handbag, a pink Nintendo DS Lit and a silver Dell laptop were taken. A house was entered in New Street West in the city. A wallet, a black Nokia mobile phone, grey Samsung mobile phone, and €150 cash was taken. The same morning between 7am and 9am a house at Lower Canal Road was entered and two silver Dell laptops was taken.
