Medtronic to sponsor Baboró children’s festival

The 14th Baboró International Arts Festival for Children takes place from October 11 to 17 and will feature a feast of dance, theatre, clowning, puppetry, music, art, and literature.

The main sponsor of this year’s festival will be Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology and products for people with chronic conditions, which is located in the Parkmore Business Park, Galway.

The 2010 festival programme will be launched and available online at www.baboro.ie from Monday and the festival box office will open for bookings on Thursday September 9 at the Town Hall Theatre.

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement, Dorothy Kelly, director of human resources at Medtronic said: “Medtronic is delighted to partner with Baboró, providing a unique and positive contribution towards the education of the next generations, the innovators of the future.”

Baboró general manager Teenagh Cunningham said: “Partnering with the Medtronic Foundation helps Baboró to achieve its goals, and we applaud the foundation for its vision in seeing the value of nurturing the creative mind from an early age.”

Ms Cunningham said Baboró will encourage creativity in children and positively aid their development.

“Baboró is at heart a festival for children and families,” she said. “Engagement with creativity, and learning creatively from the very early years fosters confidence in young people, broadens their understanding of their world, and prepares them for the challenges ahead.

“The child entering the school system in 2010 will in all likelihood follow a career path in a job that doesn’t exist today. In an era of rapid change, the adults of tomorrow need to be problem solvers, creative thinkers, and innovators in all walks of life.”
