Grant will improve security of older people in Ballinasloe

Almost €5,000 has been allocated to the Ballinasloe St Vincent de Paul branch to improve the security of older people living at home.

The announcement follows representations made by local Fianna Fáil TD Noel Treacy to John Curran, the Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The money was granted under the Scheme of Community Supports for Older People. It funds initiatives which improve their security and social support. The scheme provides window locks, door locks and door chains to strengthen points of entry to homes, security lighting and smoke alarms, the once off cost of installing socially monitored alarm system, and interior emergency lighting for qualifying older people living on offshore islands.

Welcoming the funding Deputy Treacy said it is part of a national allocation to 46 voluntary organisations under the 10th tranche of payments for the Scheme of Community Support for Older People this year.
