Galway’s hunger rewarded in camogie replay

The Galway senior camogie ladies edged out Cork by 0-10 to 0-9 in Sunday’s All Ireland Senior Camogie semi-final replay in Semple Stadium to shatter Cork’s dreams of winning a coveted three in-a-row.

Sandra Tannian and wingback Regina Glynn, who was rewarded with the Gala Performance Award, were outstanding for Galway, while Aislinn Connolly’s frees and Brenda Hanney’s late score were vital in the narrow win. In contrast to the first encounter between these sides, this replay produced little in the way of free-flowing camogie, with both defences on top. However Galway had the edge at the break, leading by 0-6 to 0-3, and Noel Finn’s side could have been further ahead but for a super save by Aoife Murray in the 29th minute from a Curtin effort. Although the Rebels came back to take the lead in the 53rd minute, Galway’s hunger was rewarded.

The team will now face 2007 champions Wexford in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park on Sunday, September 12.
