Seán Kangataran releases debut album

GALWAY BASED indie-acoustic singer-songwriter Seán Kangataran has just released his self-titled debut album.

Seán’s musical odyssey began with a journey through continental Europe which saw him playing on the streets of Vienna, Prague, and Budapest. He recorded an EP which won a few awards and garnered some radio play. Encouraged by this he went to the US and played every coffee shop, venue, and open stage in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

In 2009 he worked with Glen Hansard on The Swell Season’s Strict Joy album and felt it was time to record his own long player. Dissatisfied with results, Seán scrapped the album and took some time out to rethink things.

In May 2010 he set to work again, this time with the view of “taking the same sad album and giving it joy and life”. He gathered a group of musicians around him and convinced Karl Odlum (producer of The Frames, Swell Season, Gemma Hayes, and Fionn Regan ) to mix the album and Fergal Davis (Muse/Josh Ritter ) to master it.

“The entire album was tracked in 30 days,” says Seán. “Peter Berrill came in and played some beautiful trumpet before jetting off to Italy, Peter Browne arrived back from Croatia to play some piano and Martin Murray lent some great trombone playing.

“I met a homeless violin player called Boris on the street and he came up to my place and he made a song his own. Glen Forde came back from Finland specially to write and record the bass lines.”

Seán Kangataran is available to buy as a download from iTunes. For more information see www.myspace.com/seankangataran and Facebook.
