Master photographer's exhibition captures drama of Volvo Ocean Race

Galway City Museum will host master photographer, Joe Geoghegan, for a one day extensive photography workshop on Saturday September 4.

The workshop will cover all relative aspects of photography, from 10am to 4pm, and will be suitable for all budding enthusiasts and those who are hoping to make a living from photography.

Geoghegan is one Ireland's finest photographers and has worked throughout the spectrum of the industry. This workshop has been organised in association with Joe's magnificent 'Galway Volvo Ocean Race Stopover' exhibition, which is currently running on the top floor of Galway City Museum. Joe is also exhibiting work of his at 8 Café at the museum as well as in Wa Café on Dock Road and 8 Bar on Galway Docks .

Museum Deputy Director, Breandán Ó hEaghra, is delighted that the museum is hosting the Geoghegan workshop, as well as the exhibition itself. "Firstly, if you haven't seen Joe's exhibition on the subject of the Volvo Ocean Race coming to Galway, then get down to the museum immediately,” says Ó hEaghra. “Joe managed to capture the drama, excitment and colour of that wonderful event in a way that transports you immediately back to that wonderful period in Galway's recent past. To have such a master photographer offer a full day ‘all you need to know’ workshop here in the museum is very special. An equivilant course anywhere else would cost four times as much."

Joe's Volvo Ocean Race images (which are all for sale ) will also be included in a limited edition hardback book, which will be launched at the end of September.

Places for the workshop are limited to 16 and cost just €67 so interested parties are urged to call the museum as soon as possible at 091 532460. The Volvo Ocean Race exhibition will run until September 4th (inclusive ). Galway City Museum, situated behind the Spanish Arch, is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and Mondays 2pm to 5pm and entry is free of charge.
