Renault is top for scrappage deals

After the first five months of the year, Renault is a clear leader in the scrappage sales polls with over 1,358 reclaims made by new Renault owners under the Government Scrappage Scheme.

In all there were 7,368 reclaims made to the end of May, according to statistics compiled by Revenue. Renault Ireland leads the scrappage table followed by Ford at 15 per cent and Skoda at 10 per cent.

Renault introduced its own scrappage scheme in September 2009, months before the Government's own scheme was announced and offered double scrappage on all cars of eight years and over, while also offering attractive trade-in allowances on all brands and models.

Eric Basset, managing director of Renault Ireland said: “The Renault scrappage scheme, coupled with the Government scrappage, has certainly shown a big improvement in our orders for 2010. We are very happy to be number one for scrappage in May and are delighted to be offering cleaner, safer, more economical cars to the Irish public at very affordable prices.”
