Po’Girl to bring Canadian folk to the Róisín Dubh

CANADIAN BAND Po’Girl play a kind of music known as ‘Urban Roots’ for the way it mixes folk, country, and jazz.

Po’Girl emerged from the same wave of that thrust their sister Canadian groups The Be Good Tanyas and The Wailin’ Jennys. Po’Girl have since come into their own, attracting critical acclaim for their music and touring widely.

Maverick magazine praised vocalist Allison Russell for her “soaring, at times ethereal vocals” and described the band’s music as having “elements of folk, country and blues all played with a strong jazzy feel. All in all a highly accomplished band…world beaters who could even start a new genre”.

Po’Girl play upstairs in the Róisín Dubh tomorrow from 9pm. Admission is €10. Support is from JT Nero. KitKola and Byron will be DJing afterwards.
