Galway’s Buddhists to celebrate Vesak

Galway’s Buddhist community will come together tomorrow (Friday ) to celebrate Vesak, a key feast in the Buddhist calendar celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha.

The festival will take place in Áras na nGael, Dominick Street, starting at 9am and continuing until 10pm, with events in English, Bangla, and Sinhala. The day will begin at 9am with a food offering from Galway’s Bangladesh Buddhist community, followed by teaching and bana desana by Rev Assaji Thera in English and Bangla. A food offering, or Dana, will be made at 1pm, followed by teaching and bana desana in Sinhala at 2pm. Teaching and bana desana for children will take place from 5pm, followed by meditation and lecturing from 6.30pm.

All are welcome and entrance is free. Attendees are asked to observe the dress code of traditional white or yellow clothing.
