Training for Transformation training course held in Galway

More than 20 people from different parts of Ireland and Africa took part in a training programme at a local resource centre recently.

The “Training for Transformation” programme, which was delivered by Martin Kennedy, a freelance facilitator with many years experience with the programme, took place at the St Vincent de Paul resource centre, Croí na Gaillimhe at Mill Street.

“The course was so enjoyable. We learned through having fun,” one participant observed. “We could really relate to the content, for our work, our families, our community,” says another.

The programme, which covered a range of topics including personal development, group work, social analysis, community work and organisational development, was delivered through a range of practical activities. No formal educational qualifications were needed.

Sr Imelda O’Sullivan, the course co-ordinator, says the venue was the perfect location. “I’m so pleased to have had the Croí na Gaillimhe resource centre for the course. It was an ideal location for us.”

Loretta Needham, the manager of the centre, says the programme fitted in well with the ethos of the resource centre.

“Community development and the treatment of people with respect and dignity are central values of the Vincent de Paul Society.”

The Croí na Gaillimhe resource centre is assisted by the Maureen O’Connell Fund of the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
