Ó Cuív to officially open long-awaited Knocknacarra national school

Minister Éamon Ó Cuív will be on hand to perform the official opening of St John the Apostle, Knocknacarra national school, on Friday April 23.

The official opening will take place at 9am and following this Minister Ó Cuív, other dignitaries, students, and parents will conduct a tree-planting ceremony outside the school. Bishop Martin Drennan will also be in attendance and will perform a blessing of the school with students leading prayers and singing songs.

After years of campaigning by local residents in the city’s largest suburb, the national school opened in rented premises in September 2007 with 24 students in junior infants. The new school building opened in September 2009 on the Western Distributor Road and today there are 150 students. It is believed that when fully developed the school will enrol more than 400 students.

All are welcome to attend the opening and the public are invited to take a tour of the school any time between 4pm and 6pm.
