Art auction next month to raise funds for Claregalway Educate Together school

More than 50 well known artists will take part in an art auction next month to raise funds for the Claregalway Educate Together national school (CETNS )

Participants at the event on April 18 at Westwood House Hotel will include John Behan, Kenneth Webb, Joe Boske and Marja Van Kampen.

The proceeds will be shared by the artists and the Claregalway school with no additional fees and no hidden costs for the buyer, according to the organisers.

Pre-auction bids can be taken and the artwork is available to preview at www.cetartauction.blogspot.com or www.claregalwayeducatetogether.ie together with information about the school.

CETNS is one of three Educate Together schools in Galway and was established in 2005.

It has received permanent recognition from the Department of Education but is still housed in temporary accommodation.

It is part of the fastest growing sector in Irish education providing multi-denominational schooling to a number of nationalities.

“The ethos in Claregalway under principal Terri Claffey is based on welcoming, respecting and cherishing children of all ethical and religious traditions, all races, family and social backgrounds,” says a spokesperson for the school.

“Since September 2005 it has doubled its numbers and pupils can participate in a students’ council and green committee.

“The art auction is central to vital and continuing fundraising efforts, aimed at providing the school with a permanent home.

Master of ceremonies will be Shane Fitzgerald auctioneers.”

A raffle will also take place on the day with a variety of prizes from local business sponsors.

Signed copies of Lynda Cookson’s new book Tea ‘n Turps will be available for sale on the day.

All purchasers of the book will enter a separate draw for a painting by Lynda Cookson and a portion of the book price will also go towards school funds.

Viewing will take place from noon on Sunday April 18 at the Westwood Hotel with the sale starting at 2.30pm.
