Galway Community Acupuncture: a new model of practice

Galway Community Acupuncture is a community centred healing practice with the aim to make acupuncture more accessible by making it more affordable. What distinguishes this model of practice is that treatments are offered in a comfortable and relaxed group setting.

The clinic is open plan with several recliners in a large, soothing space. There is also a private area for the initial consultation. A community acupuncture clinic practice is one where the practitioner treats more than one patient at a time, which means the cost can be significantly lower.

Treatments are offered on a sliding scale, and it is up to the clients to decide what they feel comfortable paying. A sliding scale is a way of acknowledging that the average price for acupuncture may be exclusive to some people, and adjusting treatment prices accordingly. The initial consultation is €25-€45 and follow up appointments are €20-€40. This enables clients to continue treatment for as long as needed without it being cost prohibitive, and increases the potential for successful healing.

A significant advantage of a clinic in a group setting is the added sense of community. Friends and family can come for treatment together and many people find a group space comforting, which makes treatment less isolating. Also there is a collective energy created in a shared healing environment that definitely adds something to the process.
