Cameron secures new footpath for Claremont to Corrach Bui

Work has begun on a major 300 metre stretch of footpath from the entrance of Claremont to Corrach Bui, and it should be completed by the end of this month.

The work on the footpath is a result of a motion to the Galway City Council submitted by Labour councillor Billy Cameron. “Pedestrians of the Westside and Rahoon area will be able to walk the area in more safety after the completion of a new footpath,” he said.

Cllr Cameron had originally submitted the motion in January 2008 for the work to be included in the council’s Roadworks Programme 2009.

“I was approached by residents of Claremont who had tried for many years to have the council install a footpath in the interest of health and safety,” he said. “The original design of the estate omitted a footpath. This meant residents of part of Claremont and estates north of Claremont had to take to the road for at least 300 metres.”
