Galway harpist thrilled and surprised by Meteor nomination

Galway harpist Kathleen Loughnane was “surprised and delighted” to find herself in contention with Christy Moore and Sharon Shannon for a Meteor Award.

Kathleen has been nominated in the Best Folk/Traditional category and will be competing for the award with Kíla, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, and Altan’s Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh. The Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2010 will be announced tomorrow in the RDS Simmonscourt.

Kathleen’s most recent album was released last summer. The Harpers Connellan - Irish Music of the late 17th Century, which features music composed by Sligo brothers Thomas and William Connellan. She also produced a book by the same title featuring her arrangements and transcriptions of the music, which also features articles on the composers, the times they lived in, and the music of 17th century Ireland. Kathleen is also a founder member of the trad group Dordán.
