Grealish welcomes progress on Milltown and Claregalway sewerage schemes

Plans for the long awaited Claregalway and Milltown sewerage schemes are now at an advanced stage and construction is expected to start next year.

Originally these two schemes were bundled with the An Cheathrú Rua and Craughwell schemes, but no progress on either was made.

As a result Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish and Fianna Fáil Galway East TD Michael Kitt called on the Minister for the Environment John Gormley to bundle the schemes separately.

The Minister agreed to this request and that Milltown and Claregalway be treated as a one project, the total cost of which will be €13.65 million.

“I am very confident following assurances given by Minister Gormley,” said Dep Grealish, “that the Claregalway and Milltown sewerage schemes will go to tender and contractors will be appointed this year.”
