6,000 in grants for four Co Galway groups

More than €6,000 in funding has been allocated to four County Galway groups under the Government’s Community Support for Older People Scheme, according to local Fianna Fáil Dáil Deputy Noel Treacy.

The groups are:- St. Vincent de Paul St Brendan’s Conference Loughrea - €1,740, Kilconnell Community Alert - €1,080, Killure Community Alert - €2,700 and Loughrea Family Resource Centre - €660.

Welcoming the funding, Deputy Treacy said this funding has been allocated by the Minister for Community Affairs and the National Drugs Strategy under the Community Support for Older People Scheme.

“The Community Support for Older People Scheme encourages and assists the community’s support for older people by the means of a community-based grant to improve the safety and security of its older members.

“The funding will help to pay for small security measures including a contribution towards the cost of installing monitored personal alarm systems, the cost of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting and other small items like locks. While these measures may appear small they often make all the difference in giving an older person the confidence to remain in their own homes and at the heart of their communities for longer.”

Deputy Treacy commended everyone involved with the four benefiting groups for their “hard work and dedication”.
