Flannery’s Hotel celebrates forty years of excellence in business

Friday December 4 saw a wonderful celebration where one of Galway’s best loved hotels, Best Western Flannery’s Hotel, celebrated its 40th anniversary.

In a poignant celebration many of the hotel’s past employees were in attendance together with the current employees as the Flannery family took stock of their journey over the past 40 years since the hotel first opened its doors in 1969.

Mary Flannery, the daughter of the late Frank and Anne Flannery, is the current member of the family to head up the hotel’s operation, ably supported by a team of dedicated staff led by general manager Siobhan Farragher.

During the key address, which was given by Mayor of Galway Declan McDonnell — a long time friend to the Flannery family — many tales of original Irish entrepreneurship were told centring on the one man who was missing from the celebration but never forgotten, Frank Flannery.

Mayor McDonnell was well qualified to tell these tales as he, like so many who were in attendance at the event, worked at Flannery’s Hotel long before his career switched to politics.

The event, which was also attended by many local friends, supporters, and industry professionals, was a big success and was a true testament to the esteem in which the hotel and the Flannery family is held in Galway and Ireland.
