Galway Theatre Festival

THE GALWAY Theatre Festival takes place this week and there are numerous shows and events worth checking out in the Town Hall and the Nuns Island theatres.

Danú Theatre Company

Danú Theatre Company presents the British and Irish premiere of Dolores, by Edward Allan Baker, a tale of two sisters suffering spousal abuse, in the Town Hall tomorrow at 1pm. The company performed the play at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. Stagehappenings.com said it was “very best that I have seen at the Fringe...busy acting careers await these fine actresses”.

New play readings

THE GALWAY Theatre Festival’s New Play Readings take place this weekend in the Galway Arts Centre.

The four plays to be read are Snow by Ciarán Ruby (on Saturday at 2.30pm, directed by Helen Gregg ); The Quare Land by John McManus (Saturday at 4.30pm, directed by Rod Goodall ); Leopoldville by Jaki McCarrick (Sunday at 2.30pm, directed by Niall Cleary ); and Mountain by Mick Mulcahy (on Sunday at 4.30pm, directed by Andrew Flynn ).

The Gombeens

The Gombeens (pictured ) will perform Donkey Feathers tonight at 10.30pm and on Saturday at 1pm in the Nuns Island Theatre. In the show Mickee and Jawnie are elegantly dressed and eager to present a sophisticated variety act, but their natural irreverence shines through in everything they do as the theatre explodes into life with a world populated by all kinds of mad and weird characters.
