The Metropolitan Opera is live at The Eye

THE EYE Cinema in Wellpark in association with Opera Ireland will host The Metropolitan Opera, New York, to its screens this weekend.

The Met Opera, regarded globally as the ultimate stage spectacle will be transmitted live via satellite from New York.

The 2009-10 MET Live season features nine live opera transmissions and opens this Saturday at 6pm with a new production of Puccini’s Tosca starring Karita Mattila, Marcelo Ãlvarez, and George Gagnidze. It is directed by Luc Bondy and conducted by MET music director James Levine.

The estimated audience worldwide for the opening performance of Tosca is expected to be more than 1.8 million. The audience for the opening performance of Tosca in Ireland alone is expected to be 6,000.
